No one ever welfared their way to success!
When I was young, I worked one summer for a landscaping company. In his pickup truck on the way to one of our jobs, the owner told us about a phone call he got from a guy responding to his Help Wanted ad. The guy asked the owner how much the job paid. The owner told him the going rate, and the guy’s reply was, “Not interested. I make close enough to that on welfare, and I don’t even have to work.”
Folks, there is more to having a job than money. An honest job, even one that is not part of our career aspirations, has many benefits beyond the mere paycheck. An honest job helps us make personal connections that can be useful later in life. An honest job helps us to build a stockpile of good references, it builds character, and it usually leads to better jobs. These are just a few benefits that a simple, honest job has over sitting at home on our butt, collecting a welfare check.
If you are not convinced, then consider this: No one has ever been dependent on government programs and assistance, and at the same time achieved their dreams, wealth, or success. The two concepts can’t occur simultaneously. No one ever “welfared” their way to success!
