Knowledge is money. Gain the first, keep the second.
I think much of our money woes stem from a lack of awareness of our spending habits and our ignorance of the techniques used to part us from our money.
There has never been a time, nor will there ever be a time, when advertisers, marketers, and business owners are not trying every trick in the book to peddle their wares.
There is no shortage of methods used to get us to part ways with our money. Some are very obvious, yet most still work effectively on us. Many of the tricks work even when we are fully aware that they are being used on us. Maybe it’s because our human nature is to be nice, to avoid saying no, and to assume the best in our fellow man, even if that man is a shady character knocking on our door with a product we had no interest in two minutes ago.
The number of tactics used against us, and the ways we respond to those tactics, are almost too numerous to count. The tactics come in all shapes, sizes, and names. There are various scarcity tactics used against us. There are the tactics of lost availability, lost freedoms, diminishing personal control, even something called rejection then retreat. There are the common tactics we have all heard of, like the bait and switch technique. But there are many more, like the foot in the door technique, social proof, reciprocity, the liking rule, and many other schemes, all used to separate us from our money. It’s amazing what tricks they use on us.
I think the Life Tip here is simply “knowledge is money” when it comes to us fools and our money. If we gain the knowledge, we’ll keep more of our money.
